Abalone Shell for Smudging – Water Element into the Ceremony

Water Element into the Smudging Ceremony

Abalone Shells have been used to hold small amounts of loose herb or to carry smudging sticks while they are lit.  Abalone shells can handle small amounts of heat, however, not large amounts and certainly not the amount of heat caused by the charcoal tablet discs.

Native American Cultures believe the Abalone Shell brings balance to the fire element since it is from the water. Using the feather to represent the air and herbs to represent earth, then all of the basics elements are represented in the smudging ceremony.
